Takaka is a gem of a climbing destination hidden in the hills of New Zealand, about 500 km north of Christchurch.

My now-husband and I accidentally came across a climber’s campground in our (sketchy!) van and climbed our hearts out in Takaka for over a month. Nestled in the woods, we would listen to the symphony of birds each morning, hang out with other climbers from all over the globe, and start the day with only one question…what should we climb?
