Scottsdale is a city just east of Phoenix, well known for its resorts, golf courses, and restaurant and shopping scene. It’s a very popular destination for Canadians like myself during the winter months because of its warm weather and entertainment options.

While I love living in Calgary, I hate snow and cold weather. Since I was a child, I’ve gone to Scottsdale almost every year during the early cold months of the calendar year. It’s easy to get there from Calgary, and the warm weather combined with endless options for hiking, shopping and dining make it a great place to reset my brain and take a break from the long Calgary winters. I love how clean it is in Scottsdale, and everything there feels so luxurious. There’s also a nostalgic element for me, because it was a place where I formed many great memories with my family while growing up.

Recommendations from Brennan

  • I spend a lot of time in Kierland Commons when I’m in Scottsdale, and it has many great options. The Greene House in is my personal favourite spot.

  • El Encanto in Cave Creek makes unbelievable frozen margaritas. They have won a number awards for their frozen margaritas over the years and rightfully so!

  • Hike Camelback mountain. There are two hikes, one on each side of the mountain – try both!
  • Visit Old Town Scottsdale.
